Job description

The Centre for Brain Research (cbr-iisc.ac.in) at the Indian Institute of Science has embarked on a unique collaborative endeavour - a Biomarker Centre of Excellence in partnership with the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) and with support from Gates Ventures. This ambitious initiative aims to establish a sophisticated platform for the discovery and validation of neurodegenerative disease biomarkers. In addition to plasma biomarkers, the Centre will also explore digital biomarkers to build a more comprehensive understanding of disease onset and progression. A unique strength of this Centre of Excellence is that it will function under the scientific guidance of Professor Henrik Zetterberg (UK DRI and University of Gothenburg), a globally recognised pioneer in biomarker research, and Professor Siddharthan Chandran, Director of the UK DRI, both of whom are Visiting Faculty Members at CBR. The Centre will integrate the state-of-the-art in fluid biomarker assays, high-throughput proteomics, and AI-driven analytics with unique, diverse cohorts from India and the UK in order to accelerate breakthroughs in early diagnosis. It will foster cross-institutional partnerships, training, and knowledge exchange to build capacity and advance global brain health research. The Facility Coordinator will ensure smooth and efficient day-to-day operations of the Biomarker Centre of Excellence (CoE). Reporting to the Director of CBR and working closely with Lead – Proteomics and Lead – Digital Biomarkers, this role combines administrative oversight, operational support, and coordination across research and technical teams.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee logistics for lab space allocation, sample reception, inventory, and equipment maintenance • Coordinate vendor interactions, servicing, and procurement of reagents/supplies • Maintain detailed databases for equipment, freezer stock, consumables, and sample tracking; track and report facility usage metrics • Prepare quotes, costings, and monitor expenditures related to projects and core facility operations • Liaise with finance team on invoicing, purchase orders, and financial reporting • Develop and maintain SOPs, risk assessments, biosafety documentation, and quality control logs. • Coordinate and document ethical clearances, data governance compliance, and health & safety certifications • Facilitate onboarding, training, and work allocation for staff in consultation with Leads • Support multidisciplinary teams to optimize facility utilisation • Support facility representation in meetings, audits, and periodic reviews • Foster strong linkages with international networks and maintain active engagement with the UK DRI Fluid Biomarker Lab to ensure global alignment and collaborative growth.

Requirements:

Essential qualifications • Master’s degree (Science, Engineering, Management or related field) • Laboratory or core facility administrative experience • Proficiency in inventory systems, procurement workflows, and financial tracking • Awareness of biosafety, ethical, and equipment compliance standards. • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with capacity to liaise across teams and senior stakeholders Desirable qualifications • Experience within a biomarker, proteomics, or clinical research facility • Familiarity with digital health platforms or imaging workflows • Exposure to grant-funded project coordination and financial reporting • Ability to contribute to process improvements and facility efficiency initiatives.
